Tape Measure is an essential device to have when working on any type of household projects or making a dress.  Very few people are aware that tape measures are offered in 3 different types such as tailor tape, steel-blade tape and reel tape. However, professional fashion designers and contractors are known to customize and design their own measuring tape based on their needs.

For instance, a fashion designer or stream-stress might prefer to use a colored cloth tape with the standard US marks of inches on one side only. While a professional contractor may prefer a tape measure marked in metric units because of their international supplier.  Most tapes sold in the United States make use of measuring units, like feet or inches. But in Europe and Asia the measuring units are very different, they honor the metric units.

Professional tailors and sewing hobbyists prefer cloth or fiber glass tape with standard length ranging from 60 inches to 120 inches. Fashion designers or alternation shops use the standard fiberglass tapes for simple task such as making a shirt, altering a dress or hemming a pair of jeans. Next time you go to the mall or the dry clean notice the stream-stresses, they usually have a cloth or fiberglass tape measure wrapped around their neck. Although, some tailors prefer to use a customized tape which emphasis the yardage markings instead of the standard inches. A customized yardage marking makes it easier for the tailor to read the measurement and avoid mistakes. You will find this type of tape at your local fabric store.

Steel-blade retractor measuring tapes are normally used by carpenter, contractor and interior designers to measure an object. This type of tape measure will have a floating hook against the measurement starting point. The tape is stiff, curved metallic ribbon that can remain stiff and straight when extended, but retracts into a coil for convenient storage. The average measurement of a steel-blade tape ranges from three foot to fifty foot long. This type of tape is sold in your local hardware stores or the mall. The steel-blade also has a lock button. The lock button allows the carpenter to actually view the measurement of the object without having to hold the measuring tape.

There are various types of tape measures another the other is the Reel tape.  The reel tape is very different from the steel-blade retractor or tailor tape, it uses a blade that is thin and very flexible.  Most hobbyist and craftsmen are common users of this tape because it gives an accurate measurement in distance much longer than a retractable tape.  The blades on this tape ranges from fifty to three hundred feet long made with thin fiberglass or plastic. The housing of a reel tape is different; it has three prongs that will hold the blades together leaving the blades exposed.  The dimensions are also different, it’s much larger than a steel-blade tape measure, and you definitely cannot use this tape as a keychain or a promotional tool to promote your business.
